About KEL
To drive transformative change in environmental education, Civic Exchange introduces the Key Environmental Education Leaders (KEL) as part of the Community Empowerment initiative. This year’s KEL programme is supported by the Education Bureau, along with other educational and environmental organisations. The KEL Programme aims to translate Civic Exchange’s research into actionable climate strategies, foster widespread public support for climate initiatives, and empower the education community in introducing education sustainable development agenda in their own network. After the completion of this project, a recommendation for sustainable environmental education will be drafted and submitted to the Education Bureau.
By establishing a robust network, KEL will effectively integrate research findings into practical climate actions and sustainable development agendas within the education sector. The initiative is also focused on building extensive public support and generating enthusiasm for positive climate and biodiversity outcomes. Ultimately, KEL seeks to create a dynamic platform for advancing climate action and aligning environmental education with global sustainability goals.
Programme Summary
Over a span of three months, the KEL Programme offers educators comprehensive training on four key topics: decarbonisation, nature-based solutions, sustainable consumption, and waste management. Participants will engage in four interactive online learning sessions designed to deepen their understanding of these areas and explore practical applications.
In addition to the online modules, the programme includes trial workshops, where educators can experience hands-on activities such as various card games that simulate climate science, biodiversity, and waste scenarios, as well as eye-opening site visits related to the four topics.
This blend of online learning, workshops, and informational resources is crafted to equip educators with the knowledge and tools needed to effectively teach and inspire their students about environmental sustainability.
